FAA Approves Commercial Use of Drones
- June 22, 2016 – The Federal Aviation Administration released their ruling governing the use of commercial drone videography. The new rules, which take effect in late August, offer safety regulations for unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds that are conducting non-hobbyist operations.
Among the regulations, the FAA announced that the drone operator have a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating, or be directly supervised by someone with such a certificate. UAS is “unmanned aerial system,” and “small” refers to systems under 55 pounds.
